Was That Cat Black? is a captivating journey into the world of superstitions, where artist Seda Gazioğlu blends years of research, artistic practice, and imagination. This book doesn’t merely explore the superstitions of the past—it questions the ones we live with today and even anticipates those we may one day create. Interweaving cultural rituals, human psychology, and our faith in the unseen, it invites readers to reflect on the comforting illusions we construct to make sense of uncertainty.

Alongside Gazioğlu’s richly textured insights, the book includes intimate pages from her sketchbooks and notebooks, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind the exhibition. Four original essays provide distinct perspectives on superstition:
– Levent Erden, a marketing visionary and cultural commentator,
– Şükrü Necati Şahin, one of Turkey’s most celebrated screenwriters,
– Uzm. Dr. Gizem Güneş, psychiatrist, who subtly analyzes both the artist and the subject of superstition through her evocative storytelling, – and Arda Ekşigil, who captured and preserved a day in the studio, offering a rare look into the making of the work from the inside.

The book was thoughtfully designed by Sibel Simge Karaçalı, whose visual language elegantly carries the spirit of the project across each page.
